Acupuncture is supportive at all stages of pregnancy.
It can be useful to alleviate symptoms of morning sickness, nausea, relieve back pain or dissipate uncomfortable feelings of anxiety, heart burn and constipation. Acupuncture is also incredibly supportive if there is any history of miscarriage, in preparing for future pregnancies. The aim is to support you through your pregnancy to achieve your goal of having a healthy baby.
I recommend that Mums-to-be have acupuncture treatment every week during the first trimester to support your body and relieve any symptoms. During the second trimester it is advisable to continue acupuncture on a monthly basis for your well-being. Research suggests that acupuncture may help to improve the blood flow to the uterus and help to boost your energy levels too. Mums often report how whilst they are having their acupuncture, they can feel their babies moving around. This always suggests to me, that the babies love it when their Mums are having acupuncture treatment.
Acupuncture is really helpful in the last month of pregnancy. It can help you to prepare for your birth. It can help to induce labour or to turn breech babies, as well as to help with pain relief during the birth itself. I encourage women to come to me on a weekly basis from 36 weeks onwards.
